Fresh Perspectives

Feinstein Law is extremely pleased to welcome distinguished multi-jurisdictional attorney Evgeny Golovanov as our newest ‘Of Counsel’ attorney.  His international experience and creativity are a perfect match for the firm. We’ve enjoyed working with Evgeny on several innovative DeFi, DAO, and Crypto projects and international business disputes over the past year,  and we think you’ll find his story as fascinating as we have.

Based in Miami and a member of the Florida Bar, Evgeny is a brilliant tax and corporate professional and a true student of the law.  Evgeny moved to the USA in 2015 following a distinguished career in Russia as a lawyer, law professor, and advocate for humanitarian rights.

While still in law school in St. Petersburg, Russia, Evgeny made a name for himself before the Supreme Court of St. Petersburg, arguing that the composition of then-governor V. Matvienko’s cabinet violated the City’s charter.  After the Supreme Court of St. Petersburg agreed with him in an unappealable decision, Evgeny became a household name among St. Petersberg legal society – and within days, he found every career door slammed in his face by a profession more concerned with currying favor among the corrupt governor’s administration than with following the law (Governor Matvienko continued her kleptocratic ascent, and in 2022 she became chair of Russia’s Counsel of Federation – their Senate).  The kleptocracy’s reaction to Evgeny’s win forced him to fundamentally shift his career focus, and Evgeny spent the rest of his Russian career as a professor and law school dean and a staffer in several United Nations humanitarian initiatives and cultural programs of the US State Department.

Evgeny and his family emigrated to the USA in 2015, and he was admitted to the Florida Bar shortly thereafter.  His practice focuses on international business issues and tax law, and he has a deep understanding of the administrative and practical business and corporate issues faced by former residents of the Commonwealth of Independent States well as citizens and businesses throughout Eastern Europe and the Med.  He is a frequent guest lecturer at universities throughout the world, where he focuses on international tax treaty collisions and comparative tax issues.
